Lara Pudwell graduated from ILS in 1995. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University in 2008. Lara is currently an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Valparaiso University and has been on the faculty there since 2008. She is also the chair of the Indiana Section (statewide chapter) of the Mathematical Association of America for the academic year 2018-2019. In 2014, Lara received the Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University Mathematics Faculty Member, which is given to at most three faculty nationwide each year. Professionally, Lara has delivered many presentations and written essays and other publications, including a forthcoming book about mentoring undergraduate research for mathematicians.

Lara is also engaged in her community where she has served as a STEM mentor for local middle school girls, authors Immanuel Lutheran School’s (Valparaiso) annual academic challenge mathematics questions, and helps raise funding for grants, scholarships, and loans for higher education for women as a member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She is an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (Valparaiso) where she helps run the sound system and plays in the adult handbell choir. Lara loves to travel - she has been to 49 of 50 US states, 9 of 10 Canadian provinces, and a number of other countries. Family and friends, for whom she’s incredibly thankful, make a big difference in Lara’s life.
